Resumen. Presentamos algunos argumentos sobre la importancia del uso de diatomeas en la diagnosis de la muerte por inmersión. Aquí están los resultados acerca de las observaciones hechas en varias partes del cuerpo humano (14 mues- tras), todas sobre casos de muerte por inmersión. Estas observaciones están basa- das en el contenido diatomológico de órganos fundamentales. La ausencia de cono- cimientos en el tema de ahogados por inmersión, y la investigación y aplicación práctica en la medicina forense con diatomeas, es un tema no tratado hasta el mo- mento en los países rioplatenses.

Abstract. We present some arguments about the importance in the use of diatoms in the diagnosis in the death for immersion. Here are the results about the obser- vations making in many parts of the human body (14 samples), all about cases of death for immersion. This observations are based in the diatomological content of fundamental organs. The absence of knowledge in the subject of drowning for im- mersion, and the research and practice aplication in the forensic medicine, with dia- toms, is a proposition no making to this moment in the countries of the Rio de la Plata.
